Overeating can cause a lot of problems, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and a lot more. But few people know that overeating can also lead to ED. A person should not assume ED is part of the normal process of aging. If you’re over the age of 50 and are experiencing ED, it doesn’t mean that it’s normal. If you’re overweight and have been overeating for a long period of time, talk to your doctor to identify the underlying problem. Overeating for long period of time would certainly cause weight gain, which is bad for your heart and your erectile problem.

Schedule an appointment with your doctor and tell him or her your eating habits and he might be able to help you work out a healthier life style that enables you to be more active and eat healthy. Unhealthy lifestyle habits can also contribute to ED. Anything that’s bad for your heart is also bad for your sexual health.

Many men worry about their heart condition and take precautions to prevent heart disease. Few knows that anything that’s bad for your heart is also bad for your sexual health. Men who drink excessively in the decades prior or who abuse drugs can develop heart condition as well as ED. If you smoke, you’re also at risk for developing both problems. People usually quit smoking when something big happens but that’s already too late. Years of smoking can do permanent damage that’s irreversible. If you’re worried about what smoking can do to your heart, you should also worry about the negative effects on erectile dysfunction down the road.

Another two common things that lead to heart problems are overeating and lack of exercise. If you stuff yourself every meal until you can’t possibly eat anymore, you should start cutting back. Overeating will lead to obesity which is the number one cause of diabetes, heart disease, and … ED. People who overeat usually are inactive since they have to carry the extra weight. It’s never too late to get up and get going. You don’t have to join a gym or buy exercise equipments to stay active. Do work around the house, rake up leaves, and park your car farther in the parking lot and walk a few steps.

There are many things you can do to prevent ED and just remember healthy lifestyle means making healthy decisions one step at a time.

Even when ED has a physical cause, psychological factors may make the condition worse. Hormonal abnormalities, such as low levels of testosterone, are a less frequent cause of ED.

Many men find it difficult to notify their doctors about their problems. A diagnosis usually start with your health and medical history. Some personal questions will be asked. Then your doctor will order a physical examination and lab tests. More and more doctors will order a psychosocial examination using an interview and a questionnaire, can reveal psychological factors. A man’s sexual partner may also be interviewed to determine expectations and perceptions.

Erection * problems can be a difficult topic to discuss, but if you have problems getting or keeping an erection, you have good reasons to talk with a doctor: Erection problems not only interfere with your sex life, they can be a sign of other health problems.

Erection problems can be a sign of blocked blood vessels or nerve damage from diabetes. If you don’t see your doctor, these problems will go untreated and can harm your body.

Erection problems used to be called impotence. Now the term erectile dysfunction is more common. Sometimes people just use the initials ED.

Your doctor can offer several ED treatments. For many men, the answer is as simple as taking a pill. Other men have to try two or three options before they find a treatment that works for them. Don’t give up if the first treatment doesn’t work. Finding the right treatment can take time.

There are many Erectile Dysfunction treatments sold under the label of dietary supplements for men. But before taking any or making any purchase, be sure to check with your doctor. Not all of these supplements are approved by the FDA. Most often these supplements are sold as dietary supplements that promise to enhance male’s performance. Be cautious as these products may contain prescription drugs or other undisclosed ingredients that can be harmful.

Although most of them are supposed to be natural supplements and safe, some do contain prescription ingredients. If you’re not sure what exactly is causing your ED problem, don’t take supplements since they could be harmful to your situation. Talk to a professional before making any purchase.

Erectile dysfunction sometimes is also called “impotence”. The symptom is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Although ED is often known as impotence by many people, there’s a slight difference. The word “impotence” may also be used to describe other problems that interfere with sexual intercourse and reproduction, such as lack of sexual desire and problems with ejaculation or orgasm. In strict medical term, erectile dysfunction is specifically used to mean the repeated inability to get or keep an erection. Using the term ED makes it clear that those other problems are not involved.

The rate of patients that seek medical help with ED has increased significantly. According to the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS), for every 1,000 men in the United States, 7.7 physician office visits were made for ED in 1985. By 1999, that rate had nearly tripled to 22.3.

Although ED can happen to men at any age, in older men, ED usually has a physical cause, such as disease, injury, or side effects of drugs. Any disorder that causes injury to the nerves or impairs blood flow in the penis has the potential to cause ED. So even younger men can suffer ED if they happen to suffer nerve injuries.

However, incidence increases with age: About 5 percent of 40-year-old men and between 15 and 25 percent of 65-year-old men experience ED. But it is not an inevitable part of aging.

ED is treatable at any age, and awareness of this fact has been growing. More men have been seeking help and returning to normal sexual activity because of improved, successful treatments for ED. Urologists, who specialize in problems of the urinary tract, have traditionally treated ED; however, urologists accounted for only 25 percent of Viagra mentions in 1999.

If all other treatments fail to work. Your doctor might suggest surgical procedures. Implanted devices, known as prostheses, can restore erection in many men with ED. The risk for implants does exist including mechanical breakdown and infection. However, mechanical problems have diminished in recent years because of technological advances.

The surgeries usually try to achieve three goals:

to implant a device that can cause the penis to become erect

to reconstruct arteries to increase flow of blood to the penis

to block off veins that allow blood to leak from the penile tissues

It all depends on your specific problem, doctors might recommend one of the other. Surgical procedures are the last resort doctors use to treat erectile dysfunction. They usually try other methods before choosing surgery.

ED affects 15 to 30 million American men. ED stands for erectile dysfunction which is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse for men. In most cases, ED has a physical cause. Although it can also be caused by psychological problems. The good news is, and you probably hear it on media all the time, ED is treatable at all ages. The common treatments include psychotherapy, drug therapy, vacuum devices, and surgery.

If you or your spouse seems to be suffering from ED, make an appointment to talk to your primary physician. He or she will refer you to a specialist. There’s no need to feel embarrassed since it’s a much more common problem than you think. Just by looking at the statistics, you would know someone you know probably has it.
